DALLAS, TX -- This weekend, Candace Valenzuela, a working mother, educator, and the Democratic nominee for Congress in Texas’ 24th Congressional District, joined thousands of North Texas workers in celebrating Labor Day.

Valenzuela, a former school board member who would be the first Black Latina elected to Congress, is centering her campaign on getting folks back to work safely, protecting health care for Texans with pre-existing conditions, lowering prescription drug costs, and putting working families first — not the wealthy special interests.

“Today, I’m thinking about the unions that built the middle class and continue to provide ladders of opportunity for working families,” said Candace Valenzuela. “I’m thinking about the union workers that are the backbone of our economy. I’m thinking about the essential workers who are on the frontlines saving lives and delivering critical services every day during this pandemic. But while we celebrate labor, we must also call out wealthy special interests and Washington politicians who seek to gut unions and stifle opportunities for working families. In Congress, I’ll stand up to the special interests and fight to expand skills training opportunities, invest in Texas workers, and create thousands of dignified, well-paid manufacturing jobs across North Texas.”

Valenzuela is endorsed by leading labor organizations including the Texas AFL-CIO.

Valenzuela, ex miembro de la junta escolar y quien podría convertirse en la primera latina negra en ser elegida para el Congreso, está centrando su campaña en lograr que la gente vuelva a trabajar de manera segura, protegiendo la atención médica de los tejanos con enfermedades preexistentes, reduciendo los costos de los medicamentos y poniendo a las familias trabajadoras primero, no a los intereses especiales de los más ricos.
